Learn the basics of attachment system dynamics and get to the root of unresolved trauma to restore secure attachment for yourself and others.
Imagine a client sharing their distress over a recent argument or feeling misunderstood in their relationship. They’re anxious. They’re hurting. You hear it in the quiver of their voice.
They clearly crave the connection and intimacy of a close relationship, yet they’re afraid to trust themselves and others… including you.
Your client can’t understand: why does this happen over and over?
Why do some people stay caught up in the same challenging patterns and behaviors, no matter what partner they are with or relationship they are in?As their therapist, you know that seeing the pattern isn’t enough. You need to know WHY your clients react the way they do?
Could some corrective exercises or interventions be more effective than others? And how does your own communication style promote or interfere with helping your clients heal?
You know that there must be a better way to help people—that keeps them feeling safe and honors the way they need to be heard.
That’s because early experiences in childhood create the blueprint or template for how we interact as adults, shaping our expectations and behaviors in relationships. If our initial attachments are secure, we’re more likely to form healthy, trusting connections.
However, if those early bonds were inconsistent, neglectful, or even unsafe––we adapt to survive––and these adaptations become our patterns of insecure attachment.
As adults, attachment issues usually come to the forefront when traumatic events or stress activate our fear, anger, isolation, or helplessness. These negative responses can affect our health and wellbeing, or cause lasting damage to a relationship with someone we love.
When we seek intimacy and connection as adults, we seek a return to secure attachment.
The paradox is that we often find ourselves drawn to a partner or significant other who reinforces or recreates the challenging emotional climate of our childhood.
And while we may not have had a say in whether our needs would be met (or unmet) in childhood, the good news is that attachment styles are not fixed.
That’s because our innate attachment system is highly adaptable—and since we are already biologically wired for secure attachment, we simply need to learn techniques and tools that get to the root of trauma and support permanent change, recovery and growth.
By understanding the basics of attachment system dynamics, it becomes possible to restore secure attachment, radically change the nature of relationships, and experience greater intimacy, wholeness and joy.
Fortunately, humans are relational beings… and healing happens in the very place that the initial attachment wound occurred—in relationship.
And since we rarely heal in isolation, it’s much harder for you or your clients to do this alone.
In this course, Dr. Heller will teach you a powerful, proven and pragmatic approach that gives you concrete tools to shift destructive relationship patterns into constructive behaviors and communication.
When you understand the fundamental differences between secure and insecure attachment styles, it’s much easier to address old emotional wounds—so you can help yourself and clients break out of unhealthy patterns once and for all—freeing them to experience the joy, intimacy and connection they need and deserve.
Each module includes both recorded training and LIVE teaching––with in-depth reviews of client demos, experiential exercises, mastery practices, Q&A, and optional breakout group discussions.
Enrollment is now open. This course is only offered once a year.

“One thing that I really appreciated about this training was that it did a really comprehensive job of talking about our different attachment styles and helping us understand them. Then, we took it one step further… with real, practical ways to teach it to our clients, not just from the top-down, but also to understand attachment and really grow from the bottom-up. That gave me a much richer experience than I’d known before.”

Attachment to a primary caregiver is the foundation for all future relationships. When you experience secure attachment, you learn how to trust others, ask for what you need and respond to stress or conflict in emotionally appropriate ways.
In this module, we examine how early life experiences—including trauma—set the blueprint for our lifelong attachment patterns and beliefs.
We’ll also explore which practical strategies to use in building our capacity for secure attachment and relationship repair.
People with avoidant attachment often find it challenging to form close relationships because they were ignored consistently, rejected, or even punished for seeking connection with their primary caregivers. These interactions set the stage for a pattern of self-reliance and emotional distancing in adult relationships.
In this module, we explore avoidant attachment patterns —examining how they develop and which common behaviors manifest when in a relationship with a different attachment style. We’ll also cover corrective exercises and experiences that address underlying issues and encourage a return to secure attachment.
Ambivalent attachment develops in childhood when caregivers respond inconsistently, leading to doubt, insecurity, and a longing for connection. As adults, individuals with ambivalent attachment may experience intense emotions, have trust issues, and struggle with a prevalent fear of abandonment.
In this module, we will focus on mindfulness, self-orientation, and embodiment exercises that are specifically designed to help those with ambivalent attachment. These exercises aim to strengthen their ability to connect with others while maintaining a strong sense of self.
Disorganized attachment adaptation develops in early childhood environments when primary caregivers engage in scary, threatening, or abusive behaviors.
This creates a conflict for children who feel the need to both seek comfort from and flee from their caregivers, which can lead to frequent dysregulation.
In this module, we explore disorganized attachment patterns—with a special focus on the “immobility response,” (feeling stuck or frozen) a common reaction that emerges when the attachment system becomes reactivated in an adult relationship.
Once you have all the fundamental knowledge, you’re ready to integrate and apply new skills, techniques, and interventions with existing modalities to help yourself and your clients build healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Creating a safe therapeutic space for others may require you to first strengthen your own secure attachment skills.
In the final module, you’ll learn to recognize your patterns and stay regulated during therapy sessions, enabling you to build trust, instill confidence, and engage more effectively with clients.
Our first session starts March 13, 2024
Enrollment only opens up once a year. Be sure to save your spot!
In this hands-on workshop led by Dr. Diane Poole Heller, you’ll learn physiological skills through three practical relational resource exercises.
These exercises are designed to help you understand and manage your body’s response in relationships, including proximity, lingering fight/flight reactions, and feeling stuck or frozen.
After learning the techniques with Diane, we’ll break out into smaller groups to give every participant a chance to practice and truly embody the work.
You’ll practice techniques to safely distance from perceived threats, resolve incomplete threat responses, and overcome states of immobilization—leading to stronger and more secure connections in relationships.
In this focused workshop, watch as Dr. Diane Poole Heller reviews and debriefs an in-depth recorded client demo session—showing you how to apply the DARe framework.
You’ll see how to integrate the course material into your personal and professional life… including therapeutic interventions, corrective exercises, tools, and resources.
Diane will also open the discussion for personal exploration—sharing insights, techniques, and resources to protect ourselves as therapists when we feel activated during clinical sessions.
This workshop benefits therapists who want to address their own personal challenges, or practice role play for complex cases involving avoidant attachment wounding.
During this 60-minute live session, DARe-trained Associate, Daniel Vose will guide you through the practical application of the DARe framework to real-world scenarios.
You’ll have the opportunity to discuss clinical case examples, ask questions, and share insights with colleagues.
You’ll see how Dr. Heller’s Dynamic Attachment Repatterning experience (DARe) equips therapist (and their clients) with skills that break unhealthy relational patterns, restore secure attachment, and support deeper connections, meaning and joy in adult relationships.
You’ll expand your ability to handle complex cases, deepen your understanding of attachment theory, and improve client outcomes by integrating the work into your therapeutic practice.
And don’t worry if you can’t make it live.
All bonus sessions will be recorded and posted to your personal learning portal within 48 hours, where they’re yours to keep for the life of the program.
In this recorded, 90-minute video supplemental course training, Dr. Heller examines the broader aspects of grief, including the loss of something that never was, such as a happy childhood.
When we don’t grieve or go through the grieving process, childhood wounds often come up later in life—and we risk continued suffering. Grieving is a necessary and fundamental step for anyone on a healing journey. Yet each attachment style grieves in their own way.
In this bonus module, you’ll explore why its so important to grieve our past more actively to find a path through the pain into the future.
Because people who have the disorganized attachment adaptation often exhibit inconsistent behaviors or have a hard time trusting others, navigating the complexities of this attachment style can be particularly challenging for therapists.
In this two-part video interview, Dr. Stan Tatkin and Dr. Diane Poole Heller explore the intricacies of the disorganized attachment style—including various approaches and strategies that promote better healing outcomes.
